It was a perfect spring day! I had promised to coach a neighbor on how to photograph flowers. Our intended subjects were growing in little gardens, in the front yards along our street. An important part of the lesson, as it developed, was how to take such close-ups without provoking the gardener. (Rule #1: Don't walk on the grass.)

My student took some good shots. So did I, but not enough for a project, so I went back the next day for more. Incidentally, the light in these photos came entirely from a low, late afternoon sun.
