A production company took over my neighborhood for a day. Giant vans lined Main Street. Every available indoor space, in church and home, was rented for the day—for one auxiliary purpose or another. All took place, of course, in coordination with the City of Waltham and the Massachusetts Film Office. The reason for the invasion was the shooting of a TV series on the life of Julia Child, which is scheduled to debut on HBO-Max in the fall.
The shooting took place entirely within a local restaurant, so the only chance I had to photograph the cast and staff was when they walked to a catered lunch on the grounds of a public school several blocks away. I have to admit, the gray day and the limited access did not offer much encouragment; I pushed myself to get these pictures. Incidentally, the pilot for the series was shot in October 2020 at a famous diner directly across the street from this day’s restaurant shoot.
