These Narcissi were growing in a neighbor’s yard, the late afternoon sunlight setting them ablaze. In truth, beyond their genus, Narcissus, I know nothing about them—not their name nor where they fall in that broad category. But their color, form and pose are so expressive, I have no doubt why they are beloved the world around. Their origin? The western Mediterranean, centered on the Iberian peninsula, my flower book says.
