No Kings in America!
No in 1775 | No in 2025
This day's events commemorated the 250th anniversary of the first shot fired in the American War of Independence—"the shot heard round he world." (This was also a national day of protest against a present wannabe king, under the banner of "No Kings.")
Such was the crush of onlookers around Lexington Battle Green, where the first shot was fired, that I was unable to photograph the morning ceremony. So, I turned my attention to people, hoping to capture the mood of the crowd. In the afternoon, I took my camera to the commemorative parade.
-Ron Cohen
By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard round the world.
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard round the world.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
