It was a warm, sunny, beautiful day. But I couldn’t see a cheery face in the café. Perhaps our daily diet of dark news is to blame. People are weighed down by it, especially when it comes on top of their personal problems.
To give the faces more prominence, and to enhance the somber mood, I darkened the backgrounds using the new artificial intelligence (AI) features of my photo editor. This is in keeping with my philosophy of adjusting tonality to better tell a story, but to add no new content beyond what the camera records.
