Woodman’s is a destination for lovers of the famous Essex clams. They are locally harvested, and are either fried or steamed in-shell. Either way, they enjoy an international reputation. The lobsters are caught in the cold waters off the New England coast. (A very old and large lobster is shown in the photo.) My visit was short, allowing me to take only a few photos, but enough, I hope, to convey a vivid impression.

Essex enjoys a storied history as a boatbuilding center. For more about this celebrated, coastal town, see my related photo-stories: Shipyard, Chebacco and Onlookers.
