Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States, commemorating the end of slavery. The last slaves learned of their freedom in Texas, on June 19, 1859. The name of the holiday is derived from that date. Waltham’s celebration drew disappointingly few visitors, this year, because of record high heat—which also cut short my picture-taking.
